Nadeem Oozer
Dr. Nadeem Oozeer serves as a data scientist at the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory, where he plays a key role in the Square Kilometre Array project. He earned his PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Mauritius in 2008 and subsequently began a postdoctoral position with the SKA Africa initiative.
In 2011, Dr. Oozeer joined SARAO as a junior operations and commissioning scientist, later advancing to senior commissioning scientist for the MeerKAT project. Since his doctoral research, he has accumulated more than a decade of international experience in data science. He has also provided consultancy services to global organizations, helping them build data-centric operations through his expertise in machine learning, data science, product management, Agile methodologies, and software engineering.
Dr. Oozeer possesses a deep understanding of business strategy, data governance, and talent development. He has supervised and mentored numerous graduate students, doctoral candidates, and staff members within the organization.
He has conceptualized, organized, and led several pioneering data science workshops across Africa, securing millions of rands in international funding for the continent. His primary research interests include data science, radio galaxies, galaxy clusters, radio frequency interference, and human capacity development.

• Infrastructure: The nation possesses developed astronomy facilities and is participating in dish conversions for the Africa Very Long Baseline Interferometry Network (AVN).
• Strategic Training: Mauritius is a core partner in the DARA project, equipping young people with high-tech STEM skills in radio interferometry, signal processing, and big data analysis.
• Human Capital: Students receive specialized training in Python, scientific computing, and SKA-related science to lead future local space-sector hubs.
